ENERGY CS CHIRCHIR ON THE NATIONWIDE POWER OUTAGE

Energy Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir now says the nationwide blackout experienced Friday night was as a result of mechanical fault at the lake Turkana wind power plant.

Speaking at the national control center, Chirchir said the breakdown at Lake Turkana wind power plant caused an overload of the system that led to a complete shutdown.

The energy ministry has however assured Kenyans and investors that the restoration process is ongoing and power will be back in the entire grid later today.

 His statements, precedes a summon by the National Assembly Committee on Energy which wants the CS and Kenya Power CEO Joseph Siror to appear before it on Thursday next week to address the nationwide power outage that occurred on Friday. T

he Energy Committee, chaired by Mwala MP Vincent Musyoka, wants the pair to issue a comprehensive account of the factors that led to the outage which impacted various areas including the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
